Tanzania risks Fifa wrath
However TFF chairman Leodegar Tenga immediately called for an emergency executive committee meeting on Saturday to immediately seek solutions to the impasse. Tenga reiterated that they had followed all laid out procedures and the constitution was adopted legally and wondered the cause of the new development.
"I have called for an emergency executive committee meeting to discuss the way forward after the Minister of sports declared the adopted 2012 constitution as illegal and this is in contravention of laid down Fifa statutes of non interference," Tenga told supersport.com.
Minister of Sports Dr. Fennela Mukangara said that the constitution was adopted in contravention of the 1971 National Sports Council act as he added that the federation had violated section 11(1) on the steps to be followed by the federation in order to amend the constitution since 2010 having been adopted improperly.
The government took issue with World governing body Fifa who intervened by suspending TFF's elections that were scheduled for February 24th due to what Fifa termed as controversies surrounding the process.
The latest development puts Tanzanian football in a quagmire as Fifa statutes are against any government interference in any football matters.
The sports minister had earlier instructed TFF and the registry of sports to immediately inform Fifa on the decision taken asking them to extensively explain the circumstances for the decision.
The TFF Chairman Leodegar Tenga has been in the good books of Fifa who have severally described him as the model leader in African football and the latest development will not augur well
